The music is in you

this is for the coloring contest sponsored by the . Kind of mad that the face doesn't read well at a distance, more to come after I make sure I get the entry in.

When I was coloring this piece, I knew I wanted to have fun with multiple light sources, and try to emulate something evocative of the lighting bands and singers perform under. So the neon lighting made sense.

The biggest challenge in this piece is getting the viewer's eye to focus on "there" before it gets to "music". It's a difficult composition because it asks the viewer to read up the piece (when we are so used to reading down). I did this by making the "there" in red and trying to make that section the highest contrasting part in the piece. Unfortunately, that meant equalizing a lot of the action around the "music in you", and that's how I kind of lost the face.

One thing that I absolutely love about how this piece came out is how the light envelopes the figure, and she is basking in it's warmth.
